It was a foggy morning here on Wednesday with the minimum temperature recorded at 5.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, the weather office said.
Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 100 per cent and visibility stood at 200 metres.
At least 13 trains were cancelled, 21 delayed and four were rescheduled due to fog in several parts of northern India.
The Met has predicted moderate to dense fog for the day ahead.
"Maximum temperature is likely to hover around 23 degrees celsius. Moderate to dense fog likely to be there towards the evening," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.
Maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season's average while the minimum temperature settled at 9.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.Fog, cold return in UP after hiatus
After a three day hiatus, cold wave has returned to most parts of Uttar Pradesh and a thick blanket of fog enveloped the state capital and other parts on Wednesday morning, affecting normal life.
The weather man has predicted that the intense cold wave will persist for few more days. There is also likelihood of rains at some places.
Director of the Regional Met Office JP Gupta informed that the weather will remain as such for the next one week and the fog will also remain.
The minimum temperature recorded in the state capital was 7 degrees Celsius while the maximum is likely to be 17 degrees on Wednesday.
The minimum temperature recorded in Kanpur was 6.7 degrees Celsius, Allahabad (7) and Gorakhpur (8.4). Varanasi was the coldest with 5.8 degrees Celsius.
