Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday tabled the Railway Budget 2017-18 along with the General Budget in the Parliament.
Here are the Ten Highlights from the Railway Budget 2017-18
- Railway related state-run companies like IRCON and IRCTC to be listed on stock exchanges: FM Jaitley
- Unmanned level crossings to be done away with by 2020
- Rs 1,31,000 crore for railways capex and development expenditure in 2017-18
- By 2019, all coaches of Indian Railways will be fitted with Bio-toilets: Arun Jaitley
- A new metro rail policy will be announced. The policy will open jobs for youths: FM
- Around 500 railway stations to be made differently abled-friendly by providing lifts and escalators: Jaitley
- Service charges on e-ticket booked through IRCTC will be withdrawn: FM
- Rail safety fund with corpus of Rs 100,000 crore will be created over a period of 5 years: Jaitley
- Steps will be taken to launch dedicated trains for pilgrimage and tourism: FM Jaitley
