There are reports that Finance Ministry Arun Jaitley might present the Union Budget 2017-18 on Thursday Februray 2, instead of Wednesday due the passing away of a sitting MP E Ahamed.
Senior Kerala MP, E. Ahamed, who on Tuesday suffered a heart attack and collapsed in Parliament's Central Hall, died after undergoing treatment at the city-based Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
The mortal remains of Ahamed have already reached his residence.
"Due to unfortunate passing away of a sitting MP, Speaker will decide if house will be adjourned," Minister of State for Finance Santosh Gangwar said.
"Normally house is adjourned on death of sitting MP, so chances are budget can be postponed for a day,but Speaker will decide," he told reporters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoles the death of Ahamed. "Saddened by the demise of Mr. E Ahamed, a veteran political leader who served the nation with great diligence. My condolences," PM tweeted.
Ahamed, a former Minister in the UPA government and a longtime IUML MP from Kerala, was admitted to RML after he fell unconscious in Parliament's Central Hall during President Pranab Mukherjee's address.The 78-year-old Ahamed has served as Minister of State for External Affairs in the UPA government and has been a Lok Sabha member from Malappuram in Kerala since 1991.
Ahamed was initially admitted to the emergency department of RML. However, as he showed no signs of revival, doctors attempted to revive him by putting him on the life support system after shifting him to the trauma centre of the hospital.Saharasamay Desk/IANS For Latest Updates Please-
