Delhi Rains: Monsoon has arrived in the Capital, says IMD

Delhi is witnessing heavy rain with the onset of monsoon, bringing relief after days of a hot and humid weather that saw the temperature soaring to 40 degrees Celsius.

Parts of the city that received rain this morning included East of Kailash, Burari, Shahdara, Patparganj, ITO crossing, India Gate, Barapullah, Ring Road, Delhi-Noida border and Delhi-Gurgaon roads. The temperature settled at 27.6 degrees Celsius.
 
Visuals from parts of the city showed submerged roads while traffic chaos was reported during the morning rush hour. Flights were also affected.
 
Waterlogging was reported near Pragati Maidan, Delhi-Meerut Expressway near Vinod Nagar, Pul Prahaladpur underpass, IP Estate in front of WHO building, under Zakhira flyover, Jahangirpuri Metro station, Loni Road roundabout and Azadpur market underpass.
 
"As per IMD report, 'Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds' would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly," the traffic police tweeted.
 
Budget carrier SpiceJet said all departures and arrivals may get affected due to bad weather.
 
"#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status," it said.
 
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a tweet this morning, confirmed the advancement of the southwest monsoon into the city. It has also warned of heavy rainfall in parts of the city on Thursday and moderate rainfall on Friday. The maximum temperature will come down to 34-35 degrees Celsius.
