The meat sellers in Uttar Pradesh began an indefinite strike onn Monday against the ongoing crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses in the state.
The Uttar Pradesh new Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has passed an order to close all the illegal slaughterhouses in the state.
The Chief Minister on Saturday said he was only following the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to close down illegal slaughterhouses in the state.
"In the past couple of years, NGT had given directions many times that illegal slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh should be closed down," Aditya Nath said.In its assembly election manifesto, the Bharatiya Janata Party had promised to close all slaughter houses across the state.
