Chelsea Clinton speaks out to defend Donald Trump's 10-year-old son Last Updated : 23 Jan 2017 03:33:29 PM IST (File Photo)
Former first daughter Chelsea Clinton stepped in to defend Barron Trump after cyber bullies targeted the 10-year-old boy.
President Donald Trump's son Barron has been subjected to a barrage of cruel taunts - with one comedy writer predicting he would turn into a mass shooter, when Chelsea Clinton on Sunday urged the public to leave Barron Trump alone.
Clinton in a Facebook post, said: "Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does - to be a kid."
Chelsea, 36, spent a good deal of her childhood in the White House while her father Bill Clinton was President from 1993 to 2001 and experienced bullying in the media when she was in the spotlight, the sun.co.uk reported.
But, in the same post, Clinton — a longtime friend of Ivanka Trump — turned political.
"Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids," she wrote, drawing immediate criticism.
Some users called her "hypocritical".
One user said: "If you agree kids should not be targeted fine. Leave it at that. Otherwise collect your $600k a year and go away."
Another wrote: "I remember your childhood in the White House. The media was sometimes very cruel. Children don't have a choice as to what their parents do. I hope he'll be allowed to just be a kid."
Saturday Night Live writer Katie Rich received strong backlash on social media for her tweet on Friday regarding the youngest First Son.
She said: "Barron Trump will be this country's first homeschool shooter."
Rich has since deleted her tweet and made her account private.IANS For Latest Updates Please-
